Mom's Duck Fat French Fries

Mother Day is right around then corner and rather than make you read 3 paragraphs about our moms before we share the goodness... We are just going to jump right into sharing with you this awesome Duck Fat French Fry Recipe so you can cook it for your mom!

Ingredients:

  • 2 large russet potatoes, scrubbed and cut into desired thickness... We tend to go for thick matchsticks (about 1/4-inch thick) or the thicker 3/4 inch cut depending on our mood. You can also experiment with Sweet potatoes and other types of potatoes as well.

  • 1 quart duck fat, rendered or purchased

  • Kosher salt

  • Freshly ground black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Place the potatoes in a large bowl of cold water and let soak for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight. If you have the patience for overnight you will be happier with the final results.

  2. Drain the potatoes and pat dry with paper towels.

  3. Heat the duck fat in a large Dutch oven or cast-iron skillet over medium heat until it reaches 325 degrees F.

  4. Add the potatoes to the hot duck fat and cook in batches, without crowding, until golden brown and crispy, about 10 minutes per batch. Thicker cut fries will need a bit longer.

  5. Season the fries with salt and pepper to taste and serve immediately.

Flavor Options:

There are many different ways to flavor up your duck fat french fries. Here are a few ideas:

  • Spicy fries: Add a dash of cayenne pepper, chili powder, or smoked paprika to the fries before frying.

  • Garlic fries: Toss the fries with garlic powder, salt, and pepper before frying.

  • Parmesan fries: Toss the fries with Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper before frying.

  • Truffle fries: Toss the fries with truffle oil, salt, and pepper before frying.

  • Cajun fries: Toss the fries with Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper before frying.

You can also experiment with other spices and herbs to create your own unique flavor combinations.
